The CMFNY has provided more than $87 million to families to support children with serious illness since it was launched five decades ago. It has also raised money in support of key projects, such as the CMF Center for Pediatric Diagnostic Studies. This MRI facility recently opened at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center and is expected to treat in excess of 4,500 children per year. The CMFNY has already donated $7.5 million to outfit the center with equipment and intends to commit an additional $2.5 million in the future.
The CMF Center for Pediatric Diagnostic Studies has two MRI machines and is the only room on the fourth floor of the hospital accessible via elevator from the lobby. Specially designed to make children feel more comfortable during procedures, its interior is designed to resemble space and toys are available in the waiting room. Moreover, children are equipped with special MRI goggles to watch movies projected on the walls during the examination.
